Mittelheim
Most maps dont mark the small village of Mittelheim any more; the old wine village of Mittelheim was incorporated into the town affiliation of Oestrich-Winkel. But Mittelheim still exists. The oldest preserved Romanesque pillar basilica in the Rheingau is situated here, a gem of the most peculiar kind. The basilica was built already in the 10th century and was consecrated to St Ägidius. The Gothic town hall from 1504 and a special Renaissance building with bent Renaissance gable and sun dial can be discovered while taking a walk along the former main road. Visitors shouldnt miss the wines from the vineyard site Mittelheimer Edelmann, which impress wine lovers not only because of their pronounced acidity but also display a notable elegance with increasing maturity.
