The Catholic Parish Church of Eibingen was erected on the foundation walls of the nunnery which was established by Hildegard von Bingen in 1165. Her relics are kept in a precious shrine. The towns overall appearance is dominated by the Benedictine Abbey, built at the beginning of the 20th century, named after the great woman of the Middle Ages. The Benedictine Abbey of St Hildegard is considered to be the legal follow-up nunnery of Hildegard von Bingens foundations. Rüdesheim is thus part of the "Land of Hildegard", from here further fascinating towns can be visited within a relatively short period of time which are connected to the life and work of Hildegard of Bingen.
