Kunstforum Mainturm

In 2000, the historical building of the Mainturm was transformed into the Kunstforum Mainturm through an extension and structural connection with a new building. The aim was to create a place for ideal exchange and cultural dialogue. At the end of 2001, the first exhibition was opened with a showcase of the works by Flörsheim artist Dieter Fricke.

Since then, the Kunstforum Mainturm has established a firm place in the regional art scene through exhibitions of contemporary visual art, cultural events, and encounters between artists and art enthusiasts.

The Mainturm is the oldest preserved structure in the town of Flörsheim am Main. It was built around the mid-16th century. This early modern fortification already served to protect the riverbank and to control shipping traffic before the Thirty Years' War. It was built following an earlier fortified settlement, whose origins date back to the first third of the 14th century.
The Mainturm was used for defensive purposes, as a bastion for collecting customs, and as protection against ice floes and flooding.
The KUNSTFORUM MAINTURM is a place for ideal exchange and dialogue. The building offers space for cultural events and encounters between artists and art enthusiasts across a total of four floors.
