From the upper castle gate, turn left into "Burghofstraße" and after 100 m turn left again into "Ellenbogengasse" (no street sign).
At the end, turn right into "Rosengasse" and follow it past the church "St. Peter and Paul" to the "marketplace" (caution one-way street, please dismount). From the "marketplace" turn right onto the "Markstraße", then after about 50 m immediately turn left through "Schlossergasse" onto "Gutenbergstraße". Turn left here and after about 100 m turn right again into "Schwalbacher Straße". This takes you under the railway line and after about 150 m turn diagonally left into "Holzstraße", follow it, cross "Bertholdstraße" and continue into "Scharfensteinerstraße". This changes to an unpaved country road just before leaving the village.
Follow this, take the right fork at the junction and go under the federal road B42. Then turn left onto the paved country road which leads you to Kiedrich (1.9 km). Follow this.
At the end of the road (on the left, there is the wine tasting stand) turn right, follow the paved road uphill to the castle ruin "Scharfenstein." For additional orientation follow the sign "Weinberg der Ehe" (caution! constant, partly steep ascent, poor trail conditions). The path down from Scharfenstein leads exactly the same way back down into the valley, to Kiedrich.
From the wine tasting stand go straight ahead. Initially keep left and then take the paved ascent towards the church (signposted "Kindertagesstätte St. Valentin"). Passing the basilica "St. Valentinus", then turn right into "Suttonstraße". After about 350 m the circular route takes you left through "Kammstraße", over "Oberstraße" to "Schulstraße" (watch for the sign "Bürgerhaus"). At the end of "Schulstraße" turn right and continue to the roundabout. Take the 2nd exit towards "Vitos Klinik" or "Kloster Eberbach". You are now on "Bingerpfortenstraße" (caution steep ascent!).
After leaving the village take the cycle path on the right side of the road and follow the road up to the clinic (1.5 km). Here keep right, leave the country road, go straight on, over a short part of the clinic grounds (approx. 400 m), before you meet the main road again diagonally down. Turn right towards Hattenheim. - You pass the exits to Kloster Eberbach and the government winery "Steinberg". From here follow the signs for the "Hessian cycle route R3" and after about 500 m turn right past the estate "Neuhof". The R3 takes you steeply downhill for about 1.2 km through vineyards and fields. You reach a crossroads with a brook bridge. Here you leave the cycle route and turn left.
Further on, you pass a playground and shortly after that (approx. 30 m) turn left, cross a small bridge and then immediately sharp right onto another country road. Follow this path along the edge of Hattenheim until you reach a T-junction at the end of the path. Turn left. You are now on "Wilhelmstraße", follow it directly to the castle.
The route takes you left past the castle along "Georg-Müller-Straße", which after about 200 m leads into the "Hauptstraße". Here turn into the diagonally opposite "Pfarrgasse", follow this to get through the underpass to the Rhine bank. First keep left here, then behind the restaurant "Brückenschänke" turn diagonally right. You have now reached the "Leinpfad", which follows the Rhine all the way back to Eltville (approx. 4 km). So cycle upstream, past the outdoor swimming pool (left side), over the Rhine promenade to the Elector's Castle, the starting point of your route. You have reached your destination of the circular ride.
The start and finish of the route is the P2 "Weinhohle" parking lot, where parking is free of charge. Otherwise, the following parking lots are available:
