The Flötenweg begins at the outskirts of Hallgarten amidst vineyards (S). The marking can be found here, as often on this route, directly on a vine. Take the asphalt path along the buildings and follow the Rheinsteig access path. At the crossroads, turn left while the Rheinsteig goes right. Then briefly follow the marking along the street and go up to the right behind the bus stop. At the fork, keep left and continue straight to a viewing bench by a tree. Follow the Querflöte marking to the left into the vineyard. At the next junction, turn right and keep following the path. It winds up and down through the vineyards with beautiful views of the surrounding cultural landscape. At the T-junction turn left, after about 50 m at the wayside cross (1) turn right and follow the gravel path. Straight ahead leads a detour of the Flötenweg to Oestrich. At the shelter with an information board, a lovely view opens up. From here, the Flötenweg runs together with the Rheinsteig. A short stretch through the forest, then keep left and follow the street again through the vineyards to the next junction. Here take the right path to Kühn's Mill. Walk around the building complex, then keep left and take the lower asphalt path. Soon Mittelheim is in sight. At the first junction, follow the marking to the right. At the shelter, which is ideal as a resting place, a great view opens up. Here there is the option to go down to Mittelheim (2). Behind the shelter, the Querflötenweg continues to the left and quickly leads downhill in serpentine curves. At a paddock, there is another nice resting place under trees. At the junction (3) there is the option to descend to Winkel. A beautiful first view of Schloss Vollrads (4), one of the oldest wineries in the world, opens up with the vineyards in front of it. Walk left around the castle and quickly gain height as you go in curves. Straight through the vineyards. At the junction follow the marking diagonally left. Go steeply downhill on the Dachsberg, go straight at the crossroads, and then climb steeply up the vineyard. There is a great view of the stretch already covered. Continue briefly through the vineyard, then the buildings of Johannisberg are reached. At the small street turn left following the marking and continue straight downhill towards the Rhine. The destination, Schloss Johannisberg (5), can already be seen behind the vineyards. There is a large parking lot and a bus stop at the castle.
