The path to the invention of printing with movable type
Johannes Gutenberg is closely connected to the sparkling wine, wine, and rose town of Eltville am Rhein. Here, in the 15th century, he received his only honor during his lifetime. Part of his family lived here, whom he visited. And here printing was and still is done in his spirit to this day. Eltville am Rhein honors the “Man of the Millennium” with many events, a permanent exhibition in the Kurfürstliche Burg, and regular printing days by the Burg Association. On the occasion of the 550th anniversary of his death, a new offer is being created with the Gutenbergweg. This special hiking trail commemorates one of humanity’s most important inventions.
The easily passable path informs on 26 panels from A to Z about Gutenberg, explains where you currently are, and also invites all children to participate, play, and learn. The family town Eltville am Rhein thus expands its offer for all generations. The route connects the districts Martinsthal, Rauenthal, Hattenheim, and Erbach as well as the neighboring community of Kiedrich with the old town of Eltville.
