The route skirts the gently babbling Kisselbach. In the hollow path below the Neuhof estate, the vineyard wall provides pleasant shade in summer. Around the square of the Hattenheim Margarethen Chapel with lush trees, inviting bench and buzzing insect hotel, biodiversity is particularly evident. With views over the vast vineyards, the Rhine and the Mariannenaue nature reserve island, you walk towards Erbach.

The vineyard ecosystem creates biodiversity on the cultivated area itself: with dry stone walls and stone piles, hedges and shrubs, cover crop management, insect hotels and nesting boxes. Thus, vineyards can be true hotspots of species diversity. More than 170 wild bee species and dozens of butterflies thrive in the vineyards. Biodiversity, in turn, supports important processes in the vineyard such as soil activity, pest and weed control, and water retention. Wildflowers and vineyard herbs are part of the terroir. They are reflected in the scents and aromas of the wines.
