Riesling loop late harvest rider, Johannisberg

The Riesling loop moves northwest away from Johannisberg. The panoramic view is also a true delight for mind and soul here. Behind Hansenberg Castle, now a boarding school, lie the Taunus forests; in the floodplains winds the Elsterbach, and on the eastern valley side, mixed forests and vineyards alternate. The valley is crossed at the Ostermühle winery and estate tavern before the path leads back up into the vineyards. At the top, the view turns to Johannisberg and another highlight: the Hotel Kloster Johannisberg. Originally built as a “cold water sanatorium,” the complex was also used as a monastery in the 20th century. Another stop at the wine tasting stand, then it goes downhill to Johannisberg in the valley to reach the much-praised Johannisberg vineyard site on the other valley side and continue up to the castle.
