South American Sounds at Schloss Johannisberg
When it comes to the music of South America, one instrument is indispensable: the guitar, which has enjoyed a special status on this continent for centuries. Two years ago, the young guitarist Plínio Fernandes thrilled the Rheingau audience with his solo recital featuring Brazilian repertoire. Now he returns, bringing with him violinist Guido Sant’Anna from São Paulo, a musical partner who not only is the recipient of the LOTTO Sponsorship Award 2024 but also currently draws international attention with his talent. Together, they present a program that uniquely combines Brazilian passion, dance-like energy, and touching melancholy. While Fernandes' guitar exudes warmth and rhythmic lightness, Guido Sant’Anna sets new accents with blazing virtuosity and poetic depth. On this evening, the two not only make the traditions of their homeland audible but also demonstrate how fresh and forward-looking South American music can sound today.
