The Christmas Oratorio is one of the most important works of choral literature. The festive opening and closing choruses, the setting of the New Testament Christmas story in the recitatives, punctuated by Christmas chorales and arias of the solo singers, shape the oratorio. The six parts are connected by the joy of Christ's birth. It is performed in numerous cities in Germany, but also internationally during the Christmas season.

The historically informed performance takes place with original baroque instruments in the tuning that was customary in Bach's time. Furthermore, the original melodies shine with the warmth and clarity of a boys' choir, close to Bach's sound ideal.
